En el Crustáceo Cascarudo, aprovechando que no hay trabajo, Bob Esponja y Patricio juegan un juego de mesa que consiste en buscar el tesoro del Holandés Volador o Errante, está basado en un mapa ficticio de un tesoro. Don Cangrejo se les une y gana varias veces seguidas hasta que anochece, Bob Esponja y Patricio se van a sus casas a dormir, pero Don Cangrejo insiste en seguir jugando hasta que Bob Esponja le dice que solo es un juego. A la mañana siguiente, Don Cangrejo aparece sobre un pequeño barco disfrzado de pirata, quiere que Bob Esponja y Patricio lo acompañen para buscar un tesoro. La primera regla es que solo el capitán (Don Cangrejo) puede ver el mapa, la segunda es que deben hablar diciendo "Arrgh". Pero con la segunda regla, Bob y Patricio se confunden y no logran decirle a Don Cangrejo de una roca gigante al frente hasta que chocan con ella (por eso la regla es anulada). Deciden seguir buscando a pie, deben dar 10,000 pasos al este, pero no encuentran la cruz, porque Patricio os guió al oeste, deben empezar de nuevo. Aunque los grumetes (Bob Esponja y Patricio) se cansan deciden quedarse con Don Cangrejo por la lealtad. Esa noche, Don Cangrejo duerme en una tiend mientras que Bob y Patricio lo hacen afuera, entran a la tienda a preguntarle si quiere seguir buscando, pero Don Cangrejo no está en la tienda. Ambos curiosean y tocan el mapa (Don Cangrejo no prohibió eso) hasta que se abre por si solo y no pueden resistir verlo, descubren que es el tablero del juego. Cuando Don Cangrejo los sorprende viendo el mapa, los acusa de traidores y quiere expulsarlos, pero de repente encuentran la marca del tesoro, excavan y lo sacan de la tierra. Don Cangrejo no quiere compartirlo, pero Bob Esponja y Patricio reclaman lo suyo por lealtad, por discutir no se dan cuenta de que el barco del Holandés Volador está sobre ellos hasta que este baja y exclama enojado quien desenterró el tesoro. Don Cangrejo dice que fueron los chicos, pero el Holandés no se molesta, sino que les agradece y les regala un doblón de oro a cada uno, Don Cangrejo también pide su recompensa y el fantasma le da un cofre del tesoro de juguete mientras él se aleja con el verdadero.
